Ms. Caroline Gumizamu is a Biotechnologist and from in Kigali, Kigali, Rwanda. 

A short introduction: Caroline Gumizamu is a female Rwandese that completed her Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology in 2017 from the University of Rwanda/Huye Campus. She volunteered with Richard’s Rwanda for almost a year as a mentor assisting young Rwandan women to improve their English skills and work towards a better future. She later was employed as an assistant operations manager for the organization’s initiative called The Abari Collective. The Abari Collective is an entrepreneurship jewelry project that enables dignified employment for young Rwandan women in Bugesera district by training them in metal jewelry production. Carol worked with Rwanda Women’s Network and Girl Effect Rwanda as a social researcher in one of their projects called Technology Enabled GirlAmbassador (TEGA) in Huye District. TEGA trains young girls in certified data-collection techniques and mobile technology to collect meaningful, honest data about their world, in real time. She also worked as a program assistant in the Division of Science and Technology of the African Union Commission under the African Union Youth Volunteer Corps (AUYVC) program.

Caroline’s interest in AfroPHC: I’m so passionate about public health. My passion stems from my personal experience. I was born and raised in a small village and I witnessed how difficult it was for people in hard to reach areas to access basic healthcare services and information. This was rekindled when I worked with Rwanda Women’s Network collecting data from hard to reach areas of Huye. One of my observations was that people from such areas do not easily access basic health care information and services which consequently brings about various problems one of those being teen pregnancies. I’m interested in AfroPHC because I believe that this would be a great platform for me to lend a helping hand in tackling some of the difficulties. Thank you.
