AfroPHC Workshop 15th June 2021

See the AfroPHC Policy Workshop 1-4pm CAT on Tuesday 15th June 2021 on “Supporting Community Health Workers in the African PHC Team”. This was in the format of a moderated discussion with panellists for 90min and then group discussion (60min) and feedback (30min).

We were really pleased to have Ravi Ram of the Peoples Health Movement and Health Workers for All Coalition, based in Kenya, who shared an overview of the WHO’s newly published Social Participation Handbook for UHC.

AMREF, as a strong supporter of CHWs/communities in Africa, supported this workshop. They fielded several people (Mary Nakazwe (Zambia), Danny Gotto (Uganda), Tiyamike Goliati (Malawi)) who spoke of their experiences and possible solutions to strengthening the support given to Community Health Workers as part of the PHC Team in African PHC.

After the panellists spoke, we broke into smaller groups for 60 minutes to discuss the question: How can we improve support for CHWs in PHC teams and community participation in African PHC/UHC? We hope your ideas can incorporated into a document being prepared for WHO AFRO on PHC Teams for African PHC/UHC.

There were English/French translators available. See slides and recording below. Join AfroPHC to get involved.
